Question 1: What causes seborrhea?

Answer: The actual cause of seborrhea dermatitis is still unclear. However, scientists believe that several things could cause it:

The first cause is the excessive production of oil on the skin. When the oil becomes in excess, it irritates the skin, causing greasy and reddish appearances.

The second suspected factor is a type of yeast known as Malassezia, which exists naturally on the skin's oil. When it multiplies in excess, that may trigger an inflammatory response from the skin.

Another cause is hormonal changes which may occur during pregnancy.


Question 2: What factors can trigger or worsen my seborrhea?

Answer: These factors include stress, oily skin, extreme cold or dry climate, oily skin, alcohol-based lotions, and any history of skin disorders like psoriasis, rosacea and acne. 
Question 3: What are the symptoms of seborrhea?

Answer: You may notice itchy and white skin flakes on the scalp (dandruff). You may notice red scales and inflamed follicles with redness around the armpits, genitals or underneath part of the breast. 


Among infants, you may notice yellow scales around their heads. This is called a cradle cap. Usually, this shouldn't itch, but scratching it may lead to inflammation, bleeding or mild infections. 

Question 4: Like other creams, must they be stored in the refrigerator?

Answer: Absolutely Not! It's not a must to store it in the refrigerator as it can still be stored at room temperature. So, no fridge, no problems!

Question 5: Apart from the scalp, which other part of the body does seborrheic dermatitis appears in?

Answer: It can appear around the ears, eyebrows, nose, back and upper part of the chest.

Answer: No! It's a non-contagious skin condition.
